Tax Day History

Why is Tax Day on April 15?

Income taxes were established when the Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified in 1913. In 1954 Congress set the date for a deadline to file taxes on April 15, in order to give taxpayers enough time to "recover from Christmas expenses."
