Branch Manager Reviews: Broad Band by Claire L. Evans

Broad Band  by Claire L. Evans This nonfiction book tells the story of women in computing. Women were once very prominent in computing, working as "human computers" and later, as programmers, like Grace Hopper. Over time, their contributions have been forgotten and left out of computing history. Evans story is easy to follow and includes descriptions of the personalities behind the technology, many of whom she interviewed herself. The most interesting part of the history of computers for me was learning about all of the women programmers who worked on the programming language, COBOL in the 1950s, which is still used today! Check out your copy of Broad Band  from the Westside Library today!

Do My Job: Librarian at Westside Library

KFOX's Kelly Anne came to the Westside Library to do our job! She took over the Wednesday morning storytime, reading some spooky stories and doing Halloween-themed crafts with the kids and parents. You can see the video of Kelly Anne at the library on the KFOX Do My Job website .

You missed it! Halloween fun!

The Westside library was a spooky place this October! On October 20, the library celebrated Halloween with games, music and scary stories. Kids competed in a "bone bridge" building competition. The library also "raffled" off prizes. People could enter to win the prizes by checking out enough books to put in a raffle entry. Overall, the spookiness was fun for everyone. Hope to see you next October!
