Branch Manager Reviews: Broad Band by Claire L. Evans

Broad Band by Claire L. Evans

This nonfiction book tells the story of women in computing. Women were once very prominent in computing, working as "human computers" and later, as programmers, like Grace Hopper. Over time, their contributions have been forgotten and left out of computing history.

Evans story is easy to follow and includes descriptions of the personalities behind the technology, many of whom she interviewed herself.

The most interesting part of the history of computers for me was learning about all of the women programmers who worked on the programming language, COBOL in the 1950s, which is still used today!
