Contest is open to all school age children in English and Spanish. Winners and honorable mentions from each branch library will be invited to an awards ceremony. Each invited guests will have an opportunity to read their poems to the audience. All selected poems will be published in an official Poetry Contest booklet. JC Penny and the Westside library sponsored a workshop for teen girls at the library, advertised on this day in 1996. The girls, starting at age 13, would get free skin and hair care tips. Read more here: El Paso Times 18 July 1996
